Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, Messaien and Ravel
Ravel’s breathtaking ballet score Daphnis et Chloé was considered by Stravinsky to be not only his finest work, “but also one of the most beautiful products of all French music.” It might be common today, but Beethoven’s daring and “unplayable” concerto was written about 50 years too early for the violinists of his time. Beethoven’s masterpiece might have languished even longer if not for the efforts of a 14-year-old virtuoso named Joseph Joachim, who performed it in 1844 under the baton of Felix Mendelssohn. Thank you Utah Symphony for making this thrilling night of music possible for our Sharetix community.
We loved the comments about the concert from our Sharetix recipients below:
“The best part of the experience was to see the enthusiasm and delight as our granddaughter watched the members of the symphony play their instruments. She is learning to play the piano and violin and loved being at the hall for the first time and listening to and watching the performance. She talked about it for a couple weeks afterwards. Thank you for the generous donation.” - Carolyn
“The whole program was wonderful. The video about Messiaen's composer and Zion's Park presentation was very informal. The comments from the Conductor Thierry Fisher were a plus to the program.” - Johanne
“Loved the music. It was a wonderful evening. Thank you!” - Carole
