Utah Symphony Season Finale

  • Abravanel Hall 123 South Temple Salt Lake City, UT, 84101 United States (map)

Under the baton of Music Director Designate Markus Poschner, known for his Bruckner expertise, the composer’s Symphony No. 4 sweeps audiences into a grand adventure through nature’s majesty and medieval romance. (Think wizards, knights and damsels in distress.) With bold brass blasting, the “Hunt Scherzo” gallops with excitement, while the triumphant finale takes you to an unforgettable peak—talk about a wild ride! Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 5 is a stunning gem that blends Middle Eastern melodies with sparkling piano virtuosity, brought to life by Youl Sun, 2024 winner of the Gina Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition. Composed during Saint-Saëns’ 1896 trip to Egypt, the concerto’s second movement flows with the sounds of the Nile, while the lively finale showcases cascading piano runs evoking the sway of boats on the water and the call of distant, alluring experiences.

SAINT-SAËNS: Piano Concerto No. 5, “Egyptian”
BRUCKNER: Symphony No. 4, “Romantic”
