THIERRY FISCHER CONDUCTS MESSIAEN, SMETANA & SIBELIUS 2
Hear the symphony Sibelius believed was thrown down to him by the Almighty as “pieces of a mosaic for heaven’s floor.” In the first of two weeks of music by Olivier Messiaen, Maestro Fischer explores the composer’s lifelong fascination with birdsong with Utah Symphony principal pianist, and Messiaen specialist, Jason Hardink as featured soloist. Follow the entire course of Smetana’s Moldau River past castle ruins, elaborate palaces and a peasant wedding, and then continuing right through the heart of Prague. Like so many composers from the cold north of Europe, Sibelius was partly inspired by an extended stay in Italy during the creation of his 2nd Symphony.
